Remember this photo of me on insta? This was taken BTS at shoot for Century 21 stores. I showed up in violet eyeliner (leftover from a Sephora play date I had with myself that morning) and the makeup artist loved it. She decided that day we’d go with a bright peacock blue on the eyes. For a fashion shoot I’m always game for any look but in real life I was hesitant. I checked my look 3 times in the car on the way back to the hotel. My uber driver said it looked great so it must be cool, right? Because uber driver always know what is and what isn’t. That night, after a full day of filming I hit the streets of nyc (couldn’t even wait until I got back to DE) and picked up both blue and violet liner with mascara to match.
And it was the best decision ever. I actually prefer to wear it when I am in my “boring clothes” (aka my favorite clothes, aka all black, black and cream etc.) It’s perfect when I don’t feel like going all out on jewelry, the eye is the accessory. I am looking fwd to summer b/c that is when I think this look will suit me best: ripped shorts x pony x white tank x loads of friendship bracelets x bright eyes x TAN.
Because I know you, and I know you will love this look as much as I do but also be just as hesitant as I was, I called up my fave makeup artist and friend, Melina Ruiz, who I was lucky enough to work with on a project with 31 bits years ago. She always seems to get looks just right so I asked her for some tips on what we should do when trying the trend. Here’s her beauty breakdown for us:
