{ ds travel diary: gild hall }

July 11, 2014

On a recent trip to NYC, (I have been in town a lot lately) I was invited to stay at Gild Hall, located in the heart of the financial district. I don’t stay in the area often, so I decided I’d spend some time between meetings wandering through the neighborhood (battery park, trinity church…).  After all of the wandering, I ended up spending an early evening back at the hotel, by choice.
Of all of the hotels I have visited in NYC thus far, Gild Hall on Gold St. wins the award for coolest bed, thanks to a headboard designed by Jim Walrod.  The overly friendly Gild staff upgraded me to a suite with high ceilings, a killer brass chandelier, a living space with leather seating, kitchen area, bath, and a bedroom.  The room was so large, and now I’m thinking this might be a nice place to stay during NYFW… not the closest to Lincoln Center, but enough space to spread out all of my sketchpads and shoes.
The lobby is beautifully decorated with a masculine lived-in vibe: chess tables, comfy leather seats, books for miles, and antler-chandeliers making the hotel lobby feel more like the perfect place to hang out, rather than just check in. I even checked out the restaurant downstairs before heading out of town and it was delicious.
If you are looking for a place to stay that has enough to do, but isn’t in the middle of the Times Square tourist scene, check out Gild Hall for an upcoming stay. I loved my stay there and it won’t be my last.

Meet you at the bar.
