{ Dallas Shaw x Jennifer Dawes Design Process }

July 20, 2016

Since so many of you are artists, and since I enjoyed the design process of this collaboration so much — I thought I should speak a bit more about it with you. This is the first of four design collaborations I’ll be working on this year. I’m very excited to see my personal style brought to life by a designer – especially by one who’s work is so inspiring.

When Jennifer asked me to begin sketching ideas of what I’d like a ring to look like, it felt overwhelming. Anything? It could look like anything at all? I sketched out a few rings shapes I loved, and scribbled in some details here and there. Then I took a step away from it, and came back to the sketches with a fresh eye.

When I did that, I realized only a few shapes were standing out to me visually. From here I re-sketched the square and rectangle designs. Note: if you are an artist/designer sometimes it helps to walk away.

At that point, before deciding anything else, I decided to get these to Jennifer to see what she was connecting to most in this group. (A collaboration doesn’t work unless both artists are reflected.) Of that group, she was certain on which ring felt strongest – a square stone with a thin, beveled edged and two side stones. Classic, but strong and unique due to the setting style.

I then turned to readers for their opinions on cut and band color.

After sharing the sketches across instagram I finally came up with a color and design combo that I felt reflected me best. Up-cycled warm hues of rose and yellow gold and ethically sourced brilliant sparkling diamonds.

This ring stack is so me. I call it “the Gatsby version of me.” Sometime I wear all three together, sometimes I wear just the single rose gold band. I like the ring I have to wear every day to suit all of my moods.

Thank you to Jennifer Dawes, and the Diamond Foundry for asking me to take part in the collaboration. I’m so proud of this final product and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Guys–I’ve found it. As you know, I’m always in search of a new lip look. Maybelline has their Super Stay 24 hour Lipstick and it is my new thing. They have so many colors to choose from, and they are SO affordable so you can bulk up! My typical issue with stay-all-day colors, are that though the color stays, your lips get dried out causing the color to peel. Maybelline Super Stay 24hr is a dual lipstick that comes with both the color and a lip balm. You start with the color, let it dry, and top it off with the balm to lock in the color and moisturize (Genius!)

Are you as crazy about the new mermaid hair trend as I am this season? Well if you’re feeling brave, try this pastel style! Is being softly-bold a thing? If so I think this nails it.

{ DS x Revelations RX }

October 23, 2015

A few weeks ago, the Revelations RX team brought me to NYC to check out their new products and learn about the penetration technology behind them. I sipped champagne with beauty editors high above the city at glasshouses and spoke with guests about instagram. After the wonderful evening with editors I headed back to Wilmington excited to try these goodies out.

I tried their mask for tired and puffy eyes the next morning before heading to work- not my usual mask nighttime routine. The team explained that these masks are designed for the girl on the go, so I thought I’d put that to the test and place the mask on during my morning coffee. The nice part about that? My skin felt refreshed during the day- instead of while I sleep at night.

You place the Revelations RX eye mask treatments (which are milky blue in color) high on your cheekbones and then slowly peel off the outside liner- leaving the treatment on your skin for 20 minutes which is what inspired the blue brush strokes on the above artwork. Next I’m trying the eye roller.

Speaking of the artwork, the creative team and I liked it so much that we decided to make it into cell phone covers and prints so stay tuned to dallasshaw.com to get your hands on her!

Hi everyone! I’m busy working on the book and pretty fun news- my new website! This blog will soon live there along with all other social content and – wait for it- shopping. While we wait for that to take shape I thought I’d share some book inspiration I’m coming across here.

The book is a fashion book so it has me researching some amazing trends and imagery. I thought I’d share my inspiration here for you to get you warmed up!

Yesterday, I was peeking around at leather jackets when I found this beauty:

which in turn led me to all these beautiful embellishes jackets:

any embellished jacket thoughts stirring around out there?

Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetIMG_2590So proud to introduce the newest addition to the DS closet. I spent so much painting these that I just had to buy one of the two styles I was illustrating a few weeks ago. seems we sold out the black-toed pair during this post so I went with the white tipped beauties. SO excited to wear these- but for now I’ll just keep them on display next to my portrait.

As promised on instagram, I’m sharing what I wore this week. I am always going from painting in the office, to client meetings and fittings and I like for clients to meet the real me. You can often find me in ripped denim. I’m only 5’2 and love an ankle cut but these are hard to find. I love Topshop’s Jaime in petite and so does every other shortie I know. Sometimes the best shoes, are the old ones. These are from nine west when I did artwork with them so long ago. The shirt above was so popular that I hardly made it 5 steps without someone asking me where it was from (Free People). It’s insanely comfy and the back is equally as maje. As per usual, piles of jewels by loren hope, j crew and wwake. Follow the links to get the look yourself. Happy shopping.
