So, if you have been following on instagram, you’ve seen my illustration of Loren Hope‘s statement piece. Since everyone was loving it on instagram, I decided to show some behind the scenes pics of my creative process.

I loved watercolor painting this piece. I think my favorite part is the iridescent center. Below are a few of my favorites with the same glow I thought you’d all enjoy!

{ Dallas Shaw x Paper Line }

January 12, 2016

I’ve been hard at work on a few images for my upcoming paper line. (yay!) I used this holiday season as inspiration. First, I started with sketching a stylish, chic figure and selected a palette. I was planning on creating a beautiful pastel coat..but the rich holiday colors got the best of me and I soon decided an emerald would be fabulous. Here are the behind the scenes images from the making of my illustration!

I’m still working on her, but I know I’ll be adding a neon pop somewhere (like the tassle above).

Stay tuned for the final piece!

{ dallas shaw team party & vintage charm giveaway }

November 25, 2015

There are some big changes coming to this little blog space and company this year. It’s not humanly possible for me to do it all myself. In fact, I decided to hire a team to bring all of this year’s beautiful projects to you!

I wanted to thank the team in advance so I brought everyone over for what we decided to call an “early Christmas” for team DS. Mostly because I had a group of gifts for them as a token of my appreciation. (And also, because I’ll take any excuse to decorate the dining room.)

Before they arrived I got up early to prep and decorate. I pulled out some gold and silver and mixed it with these Vintage Charm Inspired by Pyrex bowls (the nostalgia- my entire family used similar bowls growing up). I actually left the bowls right out on display.

Introducing the new DS team: Kylie, Hanna, Emily, Bethany, Danielle, and Ashley- the creative team is from all over the U.S. so having them together under one roof was really special for me and all of us. We spent the morning enjoying mimosa’s and other goodies (cheese) . Getting to know everyone was amazing, and seeing their response to the gifts were even better! The perks of the job are pretty good: personal illustrations, beauty supplies, jewelry, and of course fabulous matching planners – gotta keep them organized in style.

We had so much fun, and even took time to get down to business – because when you put this many workoholics in room we can’t help talking shop. A beautiful day, with a beautiful group of people. So much is happening these days, so keep an eye out for our new projects.

In the spirit of giving, I want to give you some gifts too! A set of the Vintage Charm bowls for yourself. The bowls come in three color-ways and you can choose which you like best. Each set contains three bowls in a variety of patterns including Pyrex classics Rise ‘N Shine, Spot On, Birds of a Feather, Golden Days, Memory Lane and Tickled Pink. The entry is easy. Tell us below how YOU are moved by vintage charm inspired by pyrex and one winner will be chosen and notified on Nov 30th!

{ DS loves VS }

November 10, 2015

Last year I was asked to create the artwork for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show press book ( oh- I also went to London for the show and hung with the angels for a few days NBD. If you haven’t seen it you should check it out on Instagram. ) So when Victoria’s Secret they called back to create more artwork I was even more flattered than the first time.

Here are the behind the scenes images from the making of this year’s image. The company wanted her to compliment last year’s bombshell so I brought her out of the archives for inspiration.

This year’s angel has darker hair and the new show robe. And is it even possible to be this jealous of one of my own drawings hair???

VS final
Hope you love her- I’m so excited to be adding this beauty to my portfolio.

{ DS x Revelations RX }

October 23, 2015

A few weeks ago, the Revelations RX team brought me to NYC to check out their new products and learn about the penetration technology behind them. I sipped champagne with beauty editors high above the city at glasshouses and spoke with guests about instagram. After the wonderful evening with editors I headed back to Wilmington excited to try these goodies out.

I tried their mask for tired and puffy eyes the next morning before heading to work- not my usual mask nighttime routine. The team explained that these masks are designed for the girl on the go, so I thought I’d put that to the test and place the mask on during my morning coffee. The nice part about that? My skin felt refreshed during the day- instead of while I sleep at night.

You place the Revelations RX eye mask treatments (which are milky blue in color) high on your cheekbones and then slowly peel off the outside liner- leaving the treatment on your skin for 20 minutes which is what inspired the blue brush strokes on the above artwork. Next I’m trying the eye roller.

Speaking of the artwork, the creative team and I liked it so much that we decided to make it into cell phone covers and prints so stay tuned to to get your hands on her!

{ Chicago w Babybel }

August 10, 2015

Before I officially begin work on the book ( see previous post! Hooray!), I had a few work trips already on the schedule. Wait- how in the heck am I going to add a 300 page book to this already-too-crazy schedule? I’ll stress about that later. Chicago time.
The first of three projects brought me to Chicago with Babybel. In all of my travels I’ve never actually been to Chicago so I was looking fwd to this one. Babybel was bringing me out to be a part of their Big Dreamers campaign- more specifically to surprise 8 yr old finalist and aspiring artist, Ella and her dad for a day full of fun.

I also had some fun travel partners on this trip. In addition To Ella and her dad, my husband came along for the ride this time. And I was meeting up with the other two ambassadors for the campaign: Julianne Hough and AJ McCarron. I was really looking fwd to joining these two because it’s always fun to take on projects with others in another profession. After meeting them and delivering specific and always-embarrassing messages from my parents to both ( “my dream is to dance w your brother”- from my mom, and “roll tide”- from my dad”) the project went off without a hitch. I spent a day teaching art-finalist, Ella,  some figure drawing and then we got into painting dresses for the cameras. We also inevitably got into an unforgettable glitter fight- b/c 8yrs olds. Then I joined Julianne, AJ and the other 3 finalists for a press conference and for photos.

After the project I got to see a little bit of Chicago which I LOVED. Can’t figure out just yet why everyone doesn’t live in Chicago, including myself. I really can’t wait to get back and see more of the city.

You’ll be able to see more of our fun from Chicago soon, AND you’ll be able to vote for your favorite dreamers soon via the BabybelUS facebook page. I’ll provide more info as we go. For now, hope you enjoy the photos above. A special thank you to Babybel for including me in this amazing project.

{ Dallas Shaw x Marc Jacobs Beauty }

July 21, 2015

mj1 Today, the most beautiful package came in the mail from Marc Jacobs Beauty. Introducing some really stunning lip and nail pairings. Before I tested them out on myself, I tried them out on watercolor paper. Yep– equally beautiful there too.

{ Dallas Shaw – illustrator. tastemaker. AUTHOR?! }

July 20, 2015

Today, a huge announcement.

I have signed with publisher William Morrow to have my own book!!!!! I’m going to say it again, because I haven’t yet processed it- I , DALLAS SHAW, AM GOING TO HAVE MY  OWN  BOOK.

I never- in a million years- thought that this would be something I’d get to experience in life and am so thankful (and nervous. and excited.) for the opportunity. Because I haven’t even processed this yet, I’ll just attach the official announcement for you below.

” It’s official. Artist and tastemaker Dallas Shaw has signed her recognizable signature on William Morrow’s dotted line to bring her leggy fashion illustrations and enviable personal style directly into your manicured hands– in book form. The full color style journal, planned for Spring 2017, will inspire readers to discover their inner personal style star. Shaw plans to take her readers on a personal fashion journey filled with style challenges to help you develop your eye, define your aesthetic, banish the predictable, and make heads turn, with original illustrations throughout. This is the first time Shaw’s work will be available in print for her audience.

Starting right now, team DS is searching high and low for the most beautiful clothing, beauty products, shoot locations (shouldn’t be too difficult considering her client list). Oh yeah, she’ll need some paintbrushes too.
Followers, prepare to rebrand yourself with Dallas Shaw at your side and in your closet. Until then, follow along with the making of this book and more behind the scenes adventures on “

Crazy, right? Beginning in just a few weeks I’ll be bringing this style workbook to life, and I plan on sharing as much as they will possibly allow me to! Wanted to share it with everyone today. Hoping you are as excited as I am and that you will encourage everyone you know to follow along- I will probably need your help along the way!

{ Dallas Shaw x Made Real }

July 15, 2015

Events are one of my favorite items on my lengthy services list. Sometimes I attend an opening and shop with attendees, other times I get to draw for them.  This past week I was brought to Brooklyn (my first trip to Brooklyn btw) to attend and draw on the rooftop of the McCarren Hotel at an event celebrating “Made Real”.
What I can tell you: every event is completely different, you never know what turnout will be like, but this one was PACKED. People were in line for illustrations before we even “officially” started at 6, and still getting in line after we were out of both time and light– My last illustration we actually used a light on the client’s cell phone to try to see the paper!

Everyone that came out was super stylish so turning them into a quick illustration was a piece of cake. Here are a few of my favorite moments from that beautiful evening of drawing on rooftops in NYC.
