{ DS & Ann Taylor }

May 30, 2015

Last week I was invited to go see the new Ann Taylor collection (in stores now). I met the team who showed me what they thought I might like, and then they turned me loose to show them what I actually liked! We had such a nice time and spent a few hours talking about why I liked certain things and what in store felt most “me”. I decided to bring my favorites with me on a recent antiquing trip and snapped some photos to share.

I gave myself a “fashoon dare” to embrace every day of this summer so I went with all-white! A white mesh-like skirt which is knee length, but it’s underlayer is shortened. It’s a nice fit on shorties like me because the difference in materials shows a bit more of leg. And I paired it with a tank that has a similar mesh detail on the top (not exact, which I like. ) The elastic band on the skirt breaks it up nicely and makes this look a like a dress. I did tighten the elastic on the skirt a bit, b/c this didn’t come in petite.

AT5 AT11  Next I threw on my favorite part of the outfit- the shoes. They are snakeskin sandals with shiny gold bauble detailing and I’m in love with them. In fact, while we walked through the store for the preview mid conversation I walked over picked them up and carried them along with me. (That they-might-get-away feeling where you think they are too good and if another size 6 walks in your doomed.)AT4AT8AT9  The bag? A nude bucket bag because quite honestly who doesn’t need a nude bucket bag every day in the summer. (hell little spider!!!) I also wore a taupe-y shades because the all white thing felt like it had to be broken up just a little bit for me. Adding the tan, cream and snakeskin really helped.AT12

The finishing touch, which I know you saw over at instagram, the ring stacks. Something I was really impressed with at Ann Taylor was the jewelry selection. I grabbed two ring stacks, the rose quartz stack and the white howlite stack and mixed them up but kept them to two fingers because I liked the way they all look together but you can wear these any which way. Even as a single ring- each is pretty.

On the way out of the store I picked up one last item. The white Helene buckle wedges. I just think these look so high end, and I love a wedge when I’m on the run it’s just so hard to find a chic looking comfortable shoe!  Then I got to work on my drawings. What did I whip up in that sketchbook? Stay tuned. And until then find links below to go shopping.At30 At32

{ Today = Chaotic }

May 27, 2015

As a beauty junkie, I’ll admit that I spend a lot of money on product, but there is one product I do not spend on: my mascara. Maybelline has always been my go-to for mascara, but not the cult Great Lash tube you are thinking of. I like a dryer formula, so when I stopped by the NYC offices a few weeks ago to say hello to the team there I heard some office-talk about a new product about to launch. ” Colossal Chaotic Lash” : a mascara that makes your lashes perfectly, well, messy because disorganized lashes are IN. (If team Maybelline says so, then it’s true.) I applied it immediately following the team’s instructions, “swipe right and left as you apply. repeat. Add more. MORE.” and watched my lashes transform. Thick, clumpy and somehow AMAZING? I don’t know how this works, but I spent the day feeling like my lashes were longer than ever. A waitress even asked me how long I had been wearing lash extensions!

Wanted to share a few photos with you, so you’ll be convinced to try the Chaotic trend yourself. For under ten bucks ($7.77 to get exact) you can have some fun with your lids too. Make sure you post your chaotic look so Maybelline and I can see you get disorganized!

Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetIMG_2590So proud to introduce the newest addition to the DS closet. I spent so much painting these that I just had to buy one of the two styles I was illustrating a few weeks ago. seems we sold out the black-toed pair during this post so I went with the white tipped beauties. SO excited to wear these- but for now I’ll just keep them on display next to my portrait.

My first day in Vienna was spent at a few Life Ball events, and with very little sleep the night before- yes, everything you’ve heard about the life ball plane is true- so I started off my look with shades. I brought along a one-piece black strapless jumper from TopShop, and my new favorite shoes- also Topshop. I consider snakeskin (any animal print actually) a neutral so these strappy Gillian Ghille Court shoes are my newest addition to the closet. (Don’t worry, after my luncheon I switched into converse so that I could hit the cobblestone streets for a few hours). I piled on the accessories- bracelets x infinity and my moti “mohawk” bag by Ted Baker. When it got chilly at night I added a vegan leather jacket from anthro and it worked well with both the heels and my sneaks. Think I’ll be wearing this jumper a lot in the next year, it feels MUCH more expensive than any other jumpsuit I own, and that’s due to the top which is high waisted, very fitted and wired inside to hold form. Pair it with a blazer over it for meetings, with a denim jacket a sneakers for hopping about town and just like the photos above for a stylish ladies luncheon. Links below so you can buy the look for yourself. Happy shopping.

As promised on instagram, I’m sharing what I wore this week. I am always going from painting in the office, to client meetings and fittings and I like for clients to meet the real me. You can often find me in ripped denim. I’m only 5’2 and love an ankle cut but these are hard to find. I love Topshop’s Jaime in petite and so does every other shortie I know. Sometimes the best shoes, are the old ones. These are from nine west when I did artwork with them so long ago. The shirt above was so popular that I hardly made it 5 steps without someone asking me where it was from (Free People). It’s insanely comfy and the back is equally as maje. As per usual, piles of jewels by loren hope, j crew and wwake. Follow the links to get the look yourself. Happy shopping.

{ bhldn trip }

May 14, 2015

This week I visited the bhldn offices for a fitting. I’m already married, but I needed a few formal (very formal) gowns for a few events next week. I wanted to share a few bts images of the visit. Oh and I sneak peek of what I chose!

{ New work: Christian Louboutin Beaute }

May 11, 2015

I think you’ll remember a little painting I did a few weeks back using the new Christian Louboutin polishes? You all loved it so much, and I loved using the polishes so I decided to try out something new.

You see a shoe box. I see a canvas.

The colors I had in hand were a set of white, yellow and blue. I didn’t let that stop me, I wanted to draw up some swan studies no matter what colors I had in hand. I began by sketching out, scribbling even, some swans and then without much thinking I used the white Louboutin polish as paint. I ended up dipping an inexpensive paintbrush into the polish bottle for the smallest parts, but avoided detail.

I was initially nervous to deface such an iconic shoe box, but I just adore the end result.

Here are some of the photos of the final product. DYING to know what you think! Do you like my swan studies? And the idea of artwork on shoe boxes? Because I do and I can’t wait for more.

{ Things we need: Dallas’s Spring beauty bag }

May 7, 2015

beautyspringI’m a beauty junkie. Ever since I illustrated Andrea’s book, How to Look Expensive, I’ve taken my addiction for beauty product to new heights. Each season I visit Sephora, followed by the Barney’s beauty counter, followed by Target so I can keep in the loop with all of my client’s newest products and packaging at all price ranges. I tell myself it’s research- but it’s just a weakness.

I tried to keep this to 10 items, but in the end there just wasn’t one of these that I could leave out, so I give you the 11 Spring product picks I’ll be adding to my bag this year.

1) Nars blush in starscape– because I love a bright pink powder blush. Don’t be scared blush is sheer.

2) Claudio Riaz instant bronze– You just swipe right across the rows for the perfect shade that doesn’t look orange-y.

3) Beauty is Life Wonderstick– See for yourself, the description actually reads: “god covering abilities”. sold.

4) Tata Harper rejuvenating Serum– My esthetician actually told me about this. Feel like she knows what she’s talking about.

5) Claudio Riaz instant face set– a little spritz throughout the day keeps your skin hydrated and looking dewy too.

6) Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer– again with the gel. This one’s still creamy.

7) e.l.f. instant lift brow pencil– The name says it all. I use this daily. This one is way creamier than most pencils in texture plus no sharpening.

8) Serge Lutens beaute Water Lip color – a gel-like lip color that goes on sheer and bright. Still getting used to this but kind of like the gel concept.

9) Armani Maestro Liquid blush– Another liquid blush to try,  the color of this one is flattering and creates a tanned look.

10) By terry Cheek to Cheek Water color blush– Like watercolor paint. For your face. How could I not?

11) Nars Illuminator – It’s spring, so you can’t forget the glow. Dab along cheekbones and go.

All links are below for you so you can add these to you own makeup bag. If you like a product you bought through the blog be sure to show it off & tag @dallasshaw so I can share!

{ wedding wear }

May 6, 2015

tedbaker2  This past weekend I attended the most beautiful wedding (congrats Jordan and Emily- love love love you. And love you even more after Friedman Farms.)  So what does one wear to a wedding, at a beautiful farm in the spring? I went with head-to-toe Ted Baker, and something unexpected. A sweater. #waithwhattedbaker6tedbaker1  When I told my mom I was wearing a sweater to the wedding I heard the hesitance in her voice. I assured her it was beautiful. Lightweight and covered in little half-pearls. I paired it with the maliza skirt- a floral print skirt in a pinkish/lilac hue. Warning: may induce twirling.

tedbaker11tedbaker4 A girl’s got to have accessories and sandals just didn’t feel right with this. I chose a light nude bootie (almost a blush tone) with gold details and a matching nude and black crossbody with gold details . (ps the booties look great with jeans that hit just above the ankle.)tedbaker9 I rarely match my accessories, but the repeating nude in the shoes and bag seems to make the rest of the look make more sense.tedbaker5
