This weekend I took a little shopping trip for a client who it opening a new space. She asked me if I’d help her find a few items that were unique, but didn’t want to go to overboard on the vintage feel. I never imagined that being paid to share my personal style would be a part of my job, but I love that it has become such a large part of it.

I stopped by De Ja Vu in Delaware to see what they had around. De Ja Vu’s items are of a kind so if you happen to go on a day when it’s picked over, I definitely recommend a revisit. It’s where I pick up a lot of things for my home and office. First timer? Ask for Deborah, she’ll show you the ropes.

What you need to know about vintage shopping, is that it’s easy to get a little carried away. I always wonder through the store and snap photos on my phone of things that I love and then review.

I thought I’d show you a quick list of what I always keep an eye open for on a vintage hunt. See the list below- The trick for me is to pair the items with something a bit more modern. And always keep an eye open for something with a little bit of quirk: No: not these. Theeeese.

The transitional weather has me showing a little knee this week. I have been visiting Free People’s day dresses section often and have an unexplained new attraction to black floral print. I went with this buttondown shirtdess b/c I like the length and cut but I also have my eye on the list of others at the end of this post.

I went through the entire site, no really the entire site b/c I’m “precise” so I listed all of your options with links at the bottom of the post.

And now for the stars of the show, The accessories.

For this dress I grabbed a red Elizabeth an James purse with a gold chain on it. It’s really slim, like a wallet on a chain. But the chain is really long, so bag. It also comes in black which is chic but I’ve been wanting a red bag for some time and this one felt teeny enough to not takeover any look or make me feel like my gram (she’s really well dressed. No disrespect to my gram, she just actually has a lot of red leather bags). I added taupe over the knee boots that I’ve owned forever. I live in them and they get better and better every year. Because these are no longer available I found you some similar ones here and here. And by “found you some” I really mean these are the next ones on my list. Yeah they’ll cost you but you’ll wear them for ten years straight fall winter and spring. Green mirrored Ray-bans and red lip has been my faaaavorite combination as of late, so I rocked it again with some Brandy Pham jewels, easy braids and this new lulu frost kinship pearl necklace . I wear underneath this dress and any lowly buttoned-down shirts so the statement is a little less in-your-face but a really special glimpse. oh AND I’m wearing matt black nail polish which I love, but cannot for the life of me get to stay put for longer than 40 mins tops. Please leave any suggestions below on how to make that work.

These photos were snapped by Alison Conklin, a very good friend and a talent. Check her work out before shopping below:

I have been working on designing my own line, and sometimes I get overwhelmed with my own thoughts and ideas. The best thing I can do when this happens? Take a break, walk around, see new things and the ideas kind of sort themselves out for me. I hit Annapolis MD and all of the above happened. Along with some shopping. Here’s what I brought home.

A new notepad that I think will serve as inspiration for the new line. I love the mix of paper it holds.

Alpaca finger puppets. They are adorable. Here are some on Etsy.

A red necklace w the smallest beads I’ve seen since my last visit to abc carpet.

The New dkny pr girl has launched today! I have been drawing her for years now and this one is special. It’s the first of an entire new season with DKNY for me. Excited to be staying on another year and I always love seeing your response to the new girl every month on twitter

In the middle of drawing this dress I fell for it hard, and decided it would be my birthday dress this year. I paired it with braids, black bootie and a corsage (a birthday gift from Sullivan Owen. ) Hope you love this dkny pr girl, and dress as much as I do.
