This is a psa for brides everywhere: You’ve got your earrings all wrong.
Just trust me on this. Can everyone please just quit picking the standard “stuff” for weddings and start choosing “stuff” that’s genuinely you already? I’ll go on for DAYS about wedding style (seriously, call me I’ll plan your wedding vibe) but instead today I’m focusing on earrings. One of my favorite gifts came from bhldn this year. A pair of snow bud earrings from their site that I have been wearing with my ripped denim alllll week long. The lesson here? Buy a pair of earring that you truly love when you look at them aside from your dress so that you won’t pack them away after the big day. Why not wear them for the entire honeymoon. Or the entire year after. Find some gems that feel truly you and you won’t regret the money spent.
I’ve linked a few more of my faves from their site here so you can share with your favorite brides-to-be. And for the pinterest planners- check out my pin board for weddings and parties.
Or just call me I mean it I’ll plan the hell out of your wedding attire.
GIVEAWAY TIME! I love false lashes. If I had it my way I’d have lashes like cindy-lou-who all year round. I have long lashes to begin with, but a few extras can make them look thicker and they are so fun for a special night out. I get questions about lashes daily so when Lash Closet contacted me about giving some away to you I was all in.
Lash Closet is a one stop lash shop. They sell all of the tools, adhesives and lashes that you need. You can even set up a subscription to be delivered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly…
Remember this photo of me on insta? This was taken BTS at shoot for Century 21 stores. I showed up in violet eyeliner (leftover from a Sephora play date I had with myself that morning) and the makeup artist loved it. She decided that day we’d go with a bright peacock blue on the eyes. For a fashion shoot I’m always game for any look but in real life I was hesitant. I checked my look 3 times in the car on the way back to the hotel. My uber driver said it looked great so it must be cool, right? Because uber driver always know what is and what isn’t. That night, after a full day of filming I hit the streets of nyc (couldn’t even wait until I got back to DE) and picked up both blue and violet liner with mascara to match.
And it was the best decision ever. I actually prefer to wear it when I am in my “boring clothes” (aka my favorite clothes, aka all black, black and cream etc.) It’s perfect when I don’t feel like going all out on jewelry, the eye is the accessory. I am looking fwd to summer b/c that is when I think this look will suit me best: ripped shorts x pony x white tank x loads of friendship bracelets x bright eyes x TAN.
Because I know you, and I know you will love this look as much as I do but also be just as hesitant as I was, I called up my fave makeup artist and friend, Melina Ruiz, who I was lucky enough to work with on a project with 31 bits years ago. She always seems to get looks just right so I asked her for some tips on what we should do when trying the trend. Here’s her beauty breakdown for us:
” The look in the photo has an emphasis on BRIGHT mascara , natural glow on the skin and slightly tinted brows. It is the perfect blend of creating a statement with make up.
Eyes: Best way to create a bold color on eyelashes it is best that the lashes are prepped with a lash primer that will create a great base for the colored mascara . Allow the mascara to dry before applying another coat of mascara.”
Sounds easy enough, M. Ordering my moisture tint (and booked my brow appt) right now.
I never make resolutions. I am one of “those” who just believes we should always practice year-round self improvement. But since I am a list maker (you’d be shocked at how motivated I am by any sort of a chart) I decided to write out a few goals for the year.
What is it about writing things down that seems to make things official? If anyone shares my love of writing, below are the links to my favorite planner. You all asked about in on insta- it’s from Gigi New York. I love it and have it with me always. It’s the best gift you’ll ever buy yourself. The black book is a vintage hermes planner I use as my sketchbook from Rice and Beans Vintage. I know it’s untraditional but I believe you have to love what you are designing and writing in as much as what you’re writing.
When this blog began it was simple: it was to be an outlet to share things I liked as found my own place online. Then things became not-so-simple. In the following years the blog grew more popular than I had expected and as word of my job as a fashion illustrator spread I , along with a small team, tried to keep up with what everyone else wanted to read. We answered the demands of my favorite companies, readers and friends. It always remained true to my style but still had some contributors in and out. In those years I felt like the blog could be more personal but there wasn’t so much time. That’s about to change. The blog will still remain a place share my favorite things, but also share some stories, become more of a creative outlet again and a place to connect w readers on a stronger level (I can’t leave you links and stories on insta!) We (me and you) are always chatting on twitter, via instagram and now I’d like to bring that back to the blog.
And that’s why it’s been decided that in 2015- beginning today- I take the blog back.
Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Dallas Shaw.
I’m an artist and a project designer. I’m the illustrator to the fashion industry to be even more specific. I grew up in Scranton, PA without a single connection to the intimidating industry and not a lot of shopping options but when I began drawing my mom fashion catalogues at age 4 full with matching mother daughter outfits and prices on everything down to the socks- we knew where I was headed.
Behind the scenes of the perks, the travel, the swag, being your own boss- there is a helluva lot of work that goes on. I am about to add even more work to my plate this year: I’m taking on a new adventure and placing my artwork on product for the first time. I’ve always wanted my own line and there is no better time to do it. I’m nervous, and excited and hope I can share much of that process here.
And in the meantime I’ll share a lot of what I know best, my personal style and no one else’s.
Hope you enjoy- and will join me in conversation here in the new year.
