{ daring copper }

November 17, 2014

Copper is underrated.  In the grand scheme of metallics, I feel that people tend to gravitate towards golds and silvers before they think of copper.  Thankfully, it’s making a comeback in a big way: in home, in jewelry, and in makeup.  Copper eyeshadow is a great alternative to golds and browns.  It looks great on its own (seen above) or as a smokey eye.  I’m even starting to think about using it as a liner too…

{ studs }

November 14, 2014

Never even realized it, but the bedroom is filled with nailheads. It began with the silver studs on the Target bed, remember the pink one?

Then it continued with the studs on the Safavieh chair in the corner of the room…

My absolute favorite studs are the ones across my Safavieh side tables (which I decided to use as night stands).

I love how the dark color plays against the feminine color of the headboard.

Do you have a repeating trend in your home?

{ capes }

November 13, 2014

cape1 cape2I love fall. But what I love even more than fall, is outerwear. Layers are always a welcomed challenge for me. I enjoy mixing patterns and colors, so the opportunity to pile on more clothing is always welcomed.

Since it’s mild outside, I started off the season with an olive swing-style cape with a zip front and open sides. This one is from Zara and I threw in on with flat boots. I didn’t “need” another cape, but really liked the color of this one. I plan on wearing it tonight to dinner over jeans and a sweater, and tomorrow with black ankle pants and pretty much every other day this week.

Included some other favorite olive capes for you here! Happy shopping!

{ kate spade watches }

Watcheskswatch illo

I always get on some type of watch kick. This month’s kick is Kate Spade’s gold, silver and blush pieces.  Has anyone seen these in person? I always gravitate toward a large masculine face, but I think the delicate design of these may sway me.

{ bedhead tease }

November 10, 2014

Messy hair becoming a trend is probably the best thing to ever happen to me.  The bedhead look is becoming my go-to look and if my hair was this long, I would try to make it look like this all the time.  Do you ever notice though that sometimes the “bedhead” look takes longer to perfect than a non-messy look? Oh, the irony.

Here’s some products to achieve this look, and fast:

As you may have guessed by my social sites and photos, lighting is really one of the ways I enjoy adding some conversation to a room.  I didn’t stop after the dining room. In my bedroom, I decided to go with a large chandelier light by Ro Sham Beaux.

I had been eying the beautiful things on their website for a while, but I chose very carefully since this would be my first piece of theirs. Needless to say, it was the decision that took the most time in the room. How would I ever choose from this perfect selection of lights ???

I ended up deciding on the beautiful Fiona chandelier. And what ended up swaying me? The beads.  They are white with gold swirls. It ended up being quite a large piece for a small room, but every morning when I wake up it’s really nice to look up and see her hanging overhead, first thing in the morning.
Some other RSB faves? I think Lily would be adorable in a nursery.  I’m also loving the base of Sophia IV.  Could picture these in any room of mine…

This year I stopped by the L.A.M.B. show and had a few moments to chat with the one and only Gwen Stefani. We got to talking, I mentioned I was a fashion illustrator…and well, this happened.

Top 5 moment of my career.

A few weeks ago, I got to attend The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, thanks to Kristy Sevag + The Roots (which by the way, I completely geeked out over and Kristy can vouch for).

I ended up staying an extra day to meet with a few PR teams about holiday projects. Since it was warm, I grabbed a lightweight floral ASOS dress, leopard heels, tortise sunnies and a vintage Chanel clutch and hit the street. Outside of one building, a woman came up to me and said “are you Dallas Shaw? I follow you on everything.” We got to chatting and took a few photos together and she said “I would never, ever mix those three things- but I love it on you.”
So my question today- would you? I didn’t think twice about it because I am an artist and I tend to see clothing in color and patterns that complement, but …it is crazy?

{ best of clutches }

November 4, 2014

best of clutchesI don’t think anyone understands the importance of owning a few good clutches.  Growing up, I thought they were for weddings only, so I owned a grand total of one. ONE.

It was black, plain leather and boring, but I always had one in the closet when needed. The problem with that was it never felt as special as my dress, and it never quite matched.  I would tuck it under my arm en route to my events and then immediately stash it under the seat when I got to the party. What I am telling you is that I did clutches completely wrong.
Then, I grew up and realized clutches weren’t only for parties. That they are equally amazing for dinner or drinks with friends (because all you need with you is your phone, wallet and a killer gloss). Clutches look just as amazing with ripped denim and heels as they do with a dress, if not better.

So, this year I am suggesting that you add one amazing clutch to your wishlist. Because gifting is about giving something to someone they didn’t know they couldn’t live without, give a new clutch to someone for a special occasion. Give one to the bride, your mom for Christmas, your best friend on her birthday, or add one to your list. You deserve it.

Oh and the bottom envelope clutch? It’s from H&M. You’re welcome.
