{ major cat eye }

August 18, 2014

majorcateye

Cat eye makeup is super versatile depending on how thick or long you make the line.  This cat eye is major and very Amy Winhouse & Adele-ish.  So why not copy their whole look, but just less extreme?  Use pomade to make your brows look perfect.  For the lips, keep them simple but plumped (or go for the big shebang and go pure red).  Then volumize the hair (beehive not required).  And of course, the eyeliner.  Make sure to use a liner that’s easy to use, such as YSL’s Felt Tip liner.  And there you have it–a look worthy of a Grammy winner (whether you can sing or not).

{ TWN: Relaxation }

Silk Robe

This year, I’ve learned a lot about the importance of making time to relax at home. Today’s assignment: spend an hour at night to relax and reflect.

Things you’ll need:
1) A silk robe. I bought myself one years ago thinking I’d never wear it, but it was just too pretty to not take home. Don’t just buy one – wear it. It’s a little luxury and makes a big difference in your a.m. and p.m. routine. I have a leopard print robe, but I also love a nice silk nude color.
2) A journal. Invest in a beautiful book that you’ll love to write in. Yes, they make apps for this, but no, it doesn’t replace the actual act of writing. Take time to make daily reflections. Don’t reread or rethink- just write. A creative and talented friend got me into this habit last year and it’s something I’ll never give up.
3) A really pretty pen– find one you love writing with and you’ll keep the habit.
4) Body oil & 5) bubble bath… Buy yourself a special new product with an unforgettable scent. It will make you feel like you are at the spa and keep you relaxed for the evening.

Your assignment: After dinner, before bedtime clear an hour (two if possible) for some relaxation. Step AWAY from the cell, fill a bath, light some candles and take some time to reflect on what makes you happy in life. End the evening with your favorite product and slip into a silk robe for some journaling or a good book. You’d be surprised just how relaxing this can be if you take the time to make this happen, AND you’ll save some cash by staying in.

Color Moodboard

As an artist, color is something that’s super important to me.  Through my illustrations, I combine watercolors to make other colors all the time.  Yet, there is this strange (in a good way) color that I cannot get out of my head, so much so that I have been pinning it constantly (have you noticed it yet). It’s a beautiful, intriguing shade that lies somewhere in between brown and plum. Rich, but not too deep, more cherry than taupe, and not purple enough to be a mauve. I have a new obsession after seeing it everywhere and decided I will bring it into my house. Somewhere, somehow, it has to be in my home.

This cocoa hybrid shade is clearly on trend.  It’s been popping up across home, fashion, and beauty–just check out the photos above. How did we live without this color in our lives for this long?

I am working with a new retailer this week, and I think I have found a way to get up close and personal with my new favorite hue. I will post a follow up as soon as possible- make sure you are reading daily so you can check it out 😉

I wore this gorgeous little ASOS Salon number to a dear friend’s wedding the other week and just loved it.  After posting on insta, I got so many messages asking where the dress is from, I just had to share.  So, let me introduce you to the Audrey Dress.  A perfect floral-y girl-y but super comfortable dress that works perfectly for summer weddings (especially when you catch the bouquet).  I paired my Audrey dress with my go-to Ted Baker Floral heels, some gold bracelets, red lipstick, and windblown hair.   How will you style your Audrey dress?  Check the links below for my picks (and make sure to send me yours!):

part1 part2
When I returned home from giving tastemaker tours at Las Vegas Market last week, I had some catching up to do. Artwork, errands, and prep for a new project with Valspar (stay tuned for that). Paired my black dress and nude scarf (basics when on the run) with leopard flats and acetate shades. I’ve been a huge fan of these sunnies lately, I really love the thick frames with the most contrast in the tortoise shell. Judging from my instagram page, you liked them too, so make sure you see the links below for purchasing options. I have these from Anthropologie, but also love the shape of the Miu Miu frames in the moodboard. I ended up bringing along a royal blue leather backpack for the day. I own very little of the color, but have been into all of the blue bags popping up, so I’ve included some favorites here for you. Think I’ll be toting a lot more of this one in the next few weeks.

 Anyone else kind of shocked at how much they like royal blue right now? All links below! Happy shopping.

{ katie waltman jewelry giveaway }

August 6, 2014

photo 3
I came across the work of Katie Waltman after stumbling across this hoop and chain bracelet of hers.  An online search lead me to her beautiful site where I found a group of other things I loved just as much. I’ve been living in this hammered chevron necklace as of late.  After spending a few weeks in her designs, and staring at the gorgeous packaging in the office, I called up the studio and begged them to do a giveaway because I know our readers will go head over heels for her designs. And boy did they deliver.

Here is the best part- Katie let me choose which piece to giveaway to you!!! Drumroll please…..
I chose the gold Hamsa Hand for you. I get a lot of tweets and comments on insta about my hamsa and evil eye jewelry. The hand symbolizes protection. After a wild year of travel, work, and new pressures I became an avid wearer of jewelry to reflect personal triumphs. I always have some sort of personal piece on my body- just for myself. I own this specific necklace; it’s mid-length and a perfect size so you can wear it with everything.

Wait–it gets better.  Katie Waltman wanted to get in on the fun and give away MORE.

A second person will win a package $240 in value that includes some of Katie’s favorites:

Moonstone cluster drop earrings
Antica Farmacista Acqua Room Spray

{ scentbird }

August 5, 2014

If you follow me on twitter and instagram, you’re already aware of my perfume addiction. I have a weakness for beautiful bottles- which is actually how I choose most scents in my collection.  I switch scents daily based on my mood, choosing one from my vintage mirrored tray in the closet. After being mislead in the past by fancy online fragrance descriptions, I resorted to choosing my perfume solely by the look of the bottle. This doesn’t always work, but hey I have a pretty collection, right?  Last week, I got an email from a new site called Scentbird, who solved all of my perfume troubles. Scentbird allows you to try scents at home before committing to buy.

Tried it out and ended up with Narciso Rodriguez For Her. Yes, this is may be the prettiest bottle of them all, but this time I was sure I liked the fragrance before I committed.

Also, just for fun, you can find your perfume by your zodiac sign. It’s super fun to try. Mine says the quality that defines me is creativity and gives Gucci Guilty as one of the 3 perfumes that fit me best. Spot on, Scentbird.
